I Solemnly Swear I Am Up To No Good

I dropped off the face of the planet for a little bit because…

CJ took me on the BEST DATE EVER. It was a two-day date!

He got us passes to watch all eight Harry Potter films in order at a theater. Thornton Place Theater up at Northgate turned it into a pretty awesome event – we basically camped out in theater 2 for two days. Blanket, snacks, and chai tea lattes. And way too much popcorn.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the Harry Potter franchise. I started reading the books as a young adult and continued to read them well into adulthood. Heck, even now, if I’m feeling a little down or feigning for a little escapism, I’ll start at book one and and ride the Hogwarts Express all the way through the end of book seven. Then I’ll binge watch the films. Yep. I’m one of those people.

This time through the movies, I found myself looking at some of the characters with new eyes – probably because I’m a bit older now.

I have a little more sympathy for the Dursleys. When I was younger I saw them as a bunch of assholes whose only purpose is to oppress Harry. While they’ll obviously never be admirable characters, I found myself sympathizing with them a little. From their perspective, they were saddled with a child who could do terribly scary things, yet they tried because he was family. They didn’t do their best, but they did something. I give them a C- at humanity now. (Previously, they had a big fat F in my book.)

Snape has always been an admirable character, but for some reason, this time around my respect for him grew. The one character who seemed to always make decisions based on hate was actually driven by an amazingly devoted love for Harry’s mom. His discipline and devotion were astounding.

Anywho, just a couple random geeky thoughts.
